Add new sections
By default, your course comes with 10 sections, named by week number. You are free to add or delete sections, change their names, reorder or hide them.
Modify Course Menu Sections
You can use this tool to hide, delete, rename and reorder course menu sections
- Click on the gold button in the upper right corner of your site to open the Control Panel:
- Click on Modify Course Menu Sections in the Common functions tab
- You'll then be sent to the Course Menu Section tool pictured below
Adding new sections
- Click on Add new section at the bottom of the page. You can add multiple new sections by clicking this repeatedly.
- Click on the text "New section" to rename it
- Click the Save Changes button when you are done
Renaming sections
- Double click on the section's text box and type in the new name
- Click the Save Changes button when you are done
Change your landing page
- Click radio button next to the section which you would like to be the default "landing page" (home page) for the course
- Click the Save Changes button when you are done
Hide/Delete sections
- Click the check box in the appropriate column (to hide or delete a section)
- Click the Save Changes button when you are done
Reordering (Moving) sections
- Hover over the section you want to move. Click on the black up/down arrows in the far right column, and drag the section up or down the list to change the order.
- Click the Save Changes button when you are done
Modify sections via Admin panel
By default, your course comes with 10 weekly course sections. You are not limited to the default 10, nor are you limited to this format. You are free to add more sections, change section names or delete sections. The "Add new section" button is at the bottom of the page.
Modify site sections
You can use this tool to hide, delete, rename and reorder course menu sections
- Click on the gold button in the upper right corner of your site to open the Admin panel:
- Click on Modify site sections in the Course administration tab
- You'll then be sent to the Course Menu Section tool pictured below
- Click on a section title to rename it
- Hit the Save changes button when you are done
HTML editor missing
- A new section is added and you are missing the HTML editor, do the following.
- Edit section, toward the top right
- Change the Moodle auto-format, Drop-down, to HTML format, Save changes button
- The New section will now have the HTML editor
Rearrange sections and course materials
- Click the Turn editing on button
in the upper right-hand corner.
- Click on Rearrange Materials in the Site info block
- Or, use the Control Panel
located in the upper-right corner of the site and click Rearrange course materais
- Left Click and hold on the content you want to move and drag it to where you want it and then release. You can indent content by dragging it to the right.
- You can move individual materials to a different location within a section or between sections
- You can also rearrange the order of entire sections in the same manner
- When you are done rearranging materials, click the Save changes button, at the top or bottom of the page.
- The Rearrange course materials also will show Items that are either Hidden or Visible, screen shot below. Item Week_3_Quiz3 is hidden and Item Work_Group_1_Forum_1 is visible as as there is no (hidden) to the right of the Item name.
Add text and images onto a section page
- Click the Turn editing on button
in the upper right-hand corner.
- Choose the desired Week or Topic to which you would like to add text or an image.
- Click on Add an activity or resource.
- The Activity Picker should now pop up on your screen. Select Label. You can also use the search bar to search for Label.
- In the text box for Label text, you can enter text or images into the text editor for your label by clicking the Insert/edit image button
in the second row of options. This will bring up the insert/edit image dialog box:
- If you are uploading from your computer, click Browse repositories...
- If you are adding from a website, copy and paste the URL into the Image URL box.
- Add a description for the image in the text box. This is required unless you check the box for "This image is decorative only"
- If you want to make changes to the size of the image, enter it in Size. You can also change this later by selecting Edit settings and Insert/edit image.
- Click Save image
- When you are done editing your label, click Save and return to course at the bottom of your screen.

Changing the landing page
- Select the checkbox in the landing column for the section you want to be the default
- You can also select Show all as the landing page, which will show all of the sections in your course simultaneously
- Hit the Save Changes button when you are done
TIP: Use the Toggle Preview button in the Atto HTML editor to see what the formatted text looks like before saving.
Default your course website to show all of your course content

- Go to the Control Panel
- Click on Modify site menu sections in the Common functions tab
- You'll then be sent to the Modify sections tool
- Select the checkbox in the Landing page column for Show all, which will show all of the sections in your course simultaneously
- Hit the Save Changes button when you are done
